History

The company was founded by Ernst Gerlinger whose vision was to create a biomass heating system of his own conception.

25 Years Experience

Ernst Gerlinger has dealt with burning of biomass fuels since the year 1982. At that time his goal was to offer a comfortable biomass heating system which was used as an alternative to oil using the local wood. At that time in consultation with his employer he named this project the “Biobrenner”.

After approximately ten years as an industry leader in innovative development for biomass heating systems he decided to form his own business.

Together with his family, he founded the firm of Ernst Gerlinger Biomass heating technique. The focus of the new company was the design and planning of biomass heating systems, which is known by the brand name BIOKOMPAKT®.

Founding of the Company

The name BIOKOMPAKT® is derived from the idea of Ernst Gerlinger, to combine the under-feed stoker and the system of the pre-stove to create a very compact and efficient biomass heating system. This system eliminated on the one hand, the bad quality of combustion and on the other hand the very high radiant emittance.

In addition it was possible to reduce the dimensions of the heating system, therefore there is now a compact heating system available, which burns biomass fuels with the benefits of a pre-stove concentrate.

Incidentally, a split logs boiler with oxygen sensors and power control for an Austrian boiler manufacturer was developed. A steam boiler control for a steam boiler with automatic loading and a capacity of several tons of steam per hour – as well as a plant with several megawatts of power to dry wood for a Brazilian businessman with German ancestry was developed.
At its inception in 1994, the automatically fired boilers of biomass BIOKOMPAKT® AWK were fitted with a ceramic and high-temperature resistance combustion chamber. An oxygen sensor control – which controls two independent variable speed supply air fans and a speed-controlled exhaust fan was also fitted.

This technology combined with a microprocessor control enables a very efficient and low-emission combustion. This special control, which at that time had a unique clear text display and self diagnostic feature was built by a company based in Linz on behalf of and under the direction of Ernst Gerlinger.

The Linz based company benefited from experience working with us and is now a main microprocessor producer. We have been working in cooperation with this company from 1996 to the present and now it is our main supplier.

In the year 1996 Ernst Gerlinger was awarded a prize by the Bavarian Ministry of state for very low emissions. We reached this high standard by producing a system which is technically efficient.

In the year 1999 the automatic fuel adjustment was integrated into the heating system control. This calculates the necessary amount of fuel and adjusts the fuel quantity in an adaptive way. It does this by taking the boiler nominal output into account therefore achieving maximum boiler efficiency. Thus, the efficiency of combustion and the efficient use of the biomass energy sources will be further increased.

In 2002 we were one of the first companies to field test biomass heating systems fired with energy grain. The use of these agricultural resources was of great importance for us at that time. It was already known to us that a large amount of agricultural goods cannot be used for food or feedstuffs production. It is now not necessary to dispose of these resources. You can purchase the BIOKOMPAKT® heating system and make use of these resources. In the year 2005 the company named of Ernst Gerlinger Bioheiztechnik was changed to the company BIOKOMPAKT® Heiztechnik GmbH (Heating Technology). In 2006 the son and daughter of Ernst Gerlinger Mr. Raimund and Miss Martina Gerlinger was appointed to the general management of BIOKOMPAKT® Heiztechnik GmbH. Mr. Ernst Gerlinger will also continue to work as consultant with his ideas and his vast experience. In the year 2008 BIOKOMPAKT®  Heating Technology Ltd. was awarded, the innovation award by the “Kuratorium für Wald und Forstarbeit e.V.” Today the company has a wide range of products which gives our customers the inspiration to use biomass fuels. For example from home-owners to companies and from farmers to companies for local heating networks. The company BIOKOMPAKT® Heating Technology Ltd. is a family-owned company that currently employs 14 workers. The 3500 components that are needed for the production of biomass heating system are derived from 150 suppliers - 95 % are from the Austrian regions.
